Health authorities reported Tuesday that the young person was a native to Lancaster, California, but did not provide additional information regarding his or her health status.

Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer shared with the media via a press conference, “Tragically, one of the people who died was a person under the age of 18, a devastating reminder that COVID-19 infects people of all ages.”

Over the last two days, Los Angeles County has seen 256 new coronavirus cases, edging them to 662 as of Tuesday and 11 deaths altogether.

According to USA Today, 42 percent of all coronavirus cases in the county are with people age 18-40, which really is a higher percentage than reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week. The CDC previously stated that one in five cases in the United States were with people ages 20 to 44.
