NBA players could soon see a huge reduction in their salaries in the coming weeks thanks to the coronavirus.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the NBA has asked the NBPA that players take a 50 percent pay cut starting April 15. The players’ union has countered with a proposed 25 percent pay reduction in mid-May.
Some players have already taken a pay cut but nowhere near as big as the one the league is requesting.
With three weeks and counting without NBA action, teams are starting to feel the financial burden. As of right now, nobody knows the exact financial hit the owners will take, let alone the league. For the league to come to the players and ask for a pay cut could mean that the league is coming to terms that this season could be lost.
