Last week, Iyanna Mayweather was arrested after stabbing Lapattra Jacobs, the mother of one of NBA Youngboy’s children. The altercation led to the kitchen where Iyanna grabbed two knives and stabbed Jacobs. Yaya was then charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and if convicted, the 19-year-old could face up to 99 years in prison.
It is unknown whether this is a first or second-degree felony. If it is a first-degree felony, the maximum sentence Yaya can receive is 99 years. However, if convicted of a second degree, the most she will serve is 20 years.
Yaya’s attorney, Kurt Schaffer, says that Texas’ murder statute calls for 99 years in prison, but not assault. “If you stab somebody or shoot somebody and they don’t die, then it’s an aggravated assault, which is two to 20,” Schaffer stated.
Schaffer also stated that Iyanna is doing fine despite being shaken up by this event. He also said Iyanna plans to plead not guilty when the court is due in August. He adds that she will be “fully vindicated.”
Iyanna was released on April 4 on a $30,000 bail.
