The Minnesota Timberwolves announced on Monday that Karl Anthony Towns’ mother, Jacqueline Towns, has died from complications that were the result of her contracting the coronavirus.
“Jackie was many things to many people – a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend,” the team said in a release. “The matriarch of the Towns family, she was an incredible source of strength; a fiery, caring and extremely loving person, who touched everyone she met. Her passion was palpable and her energy will never be replaced.”
Just three weeks ago, Towns took to Instagram to let everyone know his mother was in an induced coma due to the coronavirus. Towns said he hopes his story helps others during the pandemic and that “everyone understands the severity of what’s happening in the world right now.”
Several NBA players have tested positive for the coronavirus, but fortunately, none have had major complications. We would like to send our thoughts and prays to the Towns and his family during this extremely difficult time.
