Due to the impact of the coronavirus, Empire’s sixth and final season will wrap early. The 18th episode set to drop on April 21 will be two episodes shy of the complete season causing an abrupt ending.

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, the creators and executive producers of the show, released statements on the unfortunate circumstances of filming the complete ending to Deadline.

“I’m heartbroken we aren’t getting to shoot the finale we wanted — at least not yet,” Daniels said.

“We had an ending for the series planned that we all loved, and hopefully someday we’ll be able to film it and give the series its proper conclusion,” Strong said.

As of right now, there is no plan for finishing the planned finale and announcements have already run stating next week’s episode will be the wrap.

“The episode airing on April 21 was never meant to be the series finale, but due to current events it will likely be the last one our fans will see for a while,” Strong said.
