“These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen,” Trump tweeted on Friday. “Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

Rioting and looting in Minneapolis have taken away media attention from the peaceful protests. Just last night the third precinct police station in the city was set on fire. Governor Tim Walz activated 500 National Guard troops to help control the violence.

Trump previously called for an expedited FBI and Justice Department investigation into Floyd’s killing. There have still been no charges against the 4 police officers involved in Floyd’s death. Derek Chauvin, Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao have all been fired by the Minneapolis Police Department.
