Walt Disney is pledging $5 million dollars to social justice groups.  The first group Disney is donating to is the NAACP with a donation of $2 million dollars.

In a statement, Bob Chapek, CEO of Disney said he hopes his pledge will help support groups as they fight for “equality and justice.”

The killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated” adding, “This $5 million pledge will continue to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations such as the NAACP that have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and justice.”

The company also has an initiative Disney Employee Matching Gifts program, where employees are able to donate to eligible organizations with Disney then matching those donations.

As previously reported George Floyd, a Houston Texas native was killed during an encounter with Minneapolis police officers in which an officer held his knee on Floyd’s neck for several minutes. 

All four officers involved in the killing have been charged. Thomas Lane J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. Derek Chauvin, who had his knee on Floyd’s back was previously charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter will also be charged with second-degree murder.
