North Central University President Announces George Floyd Scholarship Fund, Urges Other College Presidents to Do the Same

The death of George Floyd has sparked a revolution. Not only has Americans within all 50 states joined together to protest against systemic racism and police brutality, but people around the world have also joined the movement as well. Floyd was murdered at the hands of Minneapolis police less than two weeks ago. Since then, the revolution has been televised all throughout our digital and linear timelines.

On Thursday afternoon, one of many memorial services for George Floyd was held in Minneapolis, MN. The service was held on the campus church of North Central University, where President Scott Hagan welcomed the Floyd family and other distinguished guests. Hagan announced a new scholarship would be named in honor of George Floyd. The NCU president urged all university presidents to follow his trend in establishing the scholarship fund as well. In doing so, America will invest “like never before in a new generation of young black Americans who are poised and ready to take leadership of our nation.”

Al Sharpton eulogized George Floyd. Sharpton stated that George Floyd’s story has been the story of black folks for centuries. America’s system has continued to keep its foot on the necks of African Americans.

“What happened to Floyd happens every day in this country, in eduction, in health services and in every area of American life,” said Reverend Al.

Public figures such as T.I. and Tiny Harris, Kevin Hart, Tyrese, Ludacris and Tiffany Haddish all joined to honor George Floyd. Rev. Jesse Jackson Martin Luther Luther King III and Gwen Carr, the motor of Eric Garner attended the funeral as well. A private funeral service will be held at the same location Tuesday, June 9. Vice president Joe Biden is expected to attend according to Attorney Benjamin Crump.
