A Virginia man who allegedly drove his car through a group of protestors is an “admitted leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a propagandist for Confederate ideology,” CNN reports.
The Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney detailed 36-year-old Harry Rogers has claimed his position in the white supremacist organization at his arraignment. Rogers is charged with attempted malicious wounding, felony vandalism, and assault and battery. He currently is being held without a bond. Rogers will be back in court on August 18
WTVR-Richmond detailed a Black Lives Matter protest in Richmond was the host location of the crime. The Henrico County Police Division revealed in as statement about the incident, citing several witnesses who saw a vehicle that “revved their engine and drove through the protesters occupying the roadway.” The incident led to Rogers’s arrest.
“While I am grateful that the victim’s injuries do not appear to be serious, an attack on peaceful protesters is heinous and despicable and we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor said in a statement.
Rogers could also face hate crime charges after declaring his leadership with the Ku Klux Klan.
