I’ll admit, it’s been hard to write these past few days. Between the Corona virus, protests, and images of men and women killed by cops, we have all been on a roller coaster of emotions. Growing up, my father was always in and out of jail. Standing 6ft tall with midnight skin and ‘jail muscles’ that would make any bodybuilder blush—my dad has always made police authorities uncomfortable. It has always been an unspoken word to just ‘obey’ the boys in blue so you can make it home alive. We’ve all seen videos of a normal traffic stop somehow resulting in death. Looking back, I realized my dad’s tall, strong stature put certain people on guard from the jump… especially if he raised his voice in any form or fashion. He often scared his employers or anyone afraid of a strong black man with a voice and if they decided to call the police on him, he was automatically guilty before proven innocent.
It’s a hard pill to swallow.when we have to tell our men and women to comply in order to make it home at night. Albeit difficult enough when you are being treated like an animal, sometimes complying doesn’t satisfy them either.

CashFlow nailed it with his rendition of ‘What They Really Want From Us’ a spin on DMX’s classic ‘What They Want.’ Known for his witty and clever way of connecting to hip hop fans, he never strays from hard hitting topics. The pain, anger and tears we have all shed is the result of watching people senselessly killed who look just like us and justice not being served.
