According to several confirmed new reports, former Vice President and Democratic Presidential nominee front runner Joe Biden compared and contrasted the killing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 versus the shooting death of George Floyd May 25, 2020.
While on a teleconference roundtable in Philly, Biden was trying to show how technology has exposed levels of police brutality that haven’t been seen since the first taped beating of a Black man, Rodney King in 1991.
“Even Dr. King’s assassination did not have the worldwide impact that George Floyd’s death did,” said the former Vice President. “It’s just like television changed the Civil Rights movement for the better when they saw Bull Connor and his dogs ripping the clothes off of elderly black women going to church and firehoses ripping the skin off of young kids.”
“What happened to George Floyd — now you got how many people around the country, millions of cellphones. It’s changed the way everybody’s looking at this,” he added. “Look at the millions of people marching around the world.”
The death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police as well as the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor have heightened the tension of race relations in the country and sparked protests and riots of outrage around the country.
