“We wholeheartedly condemn Derek Chauvin. Derek Chauvin failed as a human and stripped George Floyd of his dignity and life. This is not who we are,” the open letter reads. “We stand ready to listen and embrace the calls for change, reform and rebuilding.”

Minneapolis was flooded with protesters and some riots since Floyd was killed. It was 3 days after the incident that Attorney General Keith Ellison brought charges against Chauvin.

The open letter does not mention the other 3 officers who were fired and charged for aiding and abetting the murder of George Floyd. This open letter comes two days after one of the involved officers, Thomas Lane, was released from jail on bond.

“We are with you moving forward. We want to work with you and for you to regain your trust,” the letter concludes.
