In a phone call with league leaders, Brooklyn Nets Guard Kyrie Irving proposed not returning this season reportedly ready to sacrifice everything for the greater good.

“If my Black teammates and friends and brothers feel like the best way to go about real change is to not play, I stand with them… I care more about change happening than a championship,” Korver said.

Korver acknowledged that as a member of the 1st place Milwaukee Bucks he is a favorite to make it to the finals this season and potentially earn his first NBA championship. Korver has been to the finals 3 times with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2016-2018.

In 2019, Korver who was then on the Utah Jazz wrote an article in The Athletic titled Privileged, where the 20 year veteran acknowledged as a White person he has certain advantages that his Black colleagues don’t have. Korver also committed to learning more about the history of racism, supporting causes related to social justice and amplifying the loudest voices in the fight against racism.

The NBA season is still expected to resume July 30 in Florida, a state that has seen record levels of COVID-19 cases this month.
