Brooks, who was an intoxicated, harmless, unarmed man, was shot twice in the back by Atlanta police. He’s survived by three daughters, ages 1, 2 and 8, and his 13-year-old stepson.

The incident occurred in the midst of nationwide protests against police brutality in response to Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.

Brooks’ family’s attorney, Chris Stewart, announced that Perry is generously gifting the kids an opportunity to higher education. “Support like that, people who are actually in the community that loves the community that wants healing, and families like this should never have to go through something like this,” Stewart said.

Tyler Perry has been a helping hand to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, and he’s here to assist his kinfolk with the pre-existing racial pandemic.
