NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace became a prominent figure in his sport after publicly supporting Black Lives Matter and successfully lobbying for the removal of the confederate flag from NASCAR events.

Wallace’s advocacy did not go unnoticed by Beats by Dre who announced that the African-American racecar driver is officially a member of the Beats by Dre team.

Wallace’s advocacy did come with controversy after a noose was found in the driver’s garage. NASCAR unified with the driver after the incident by walking the track in solidarity. After an FBI investigation, it was revealed that the noose had been there for months and could not have targeted Wallace at the time it was placed there.

Trump slammed Wallace on Monday prior to the Beats by Dre announcement calling for NASCAR’s only Black driver to apologize to NASCAR fans.

“Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Beats by Dre decided to move up their announcement after Trump’s tweet to defend their new signee.

We weren’t going to announce this until later this week, but hate cannot win the day. No one should ever be asked to apologize for standing up for what’s right — we are proud to welcome @bubbawallace to the Beats by Dr. Dre family.
