“We fully support Zion’s decision to leave the NBA campus to be with his family,” Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin said in a statement. “Out of respect for the Williamson family, we will have no further comment at this time.”

When Williamson is able to return to the NBA bubble, he will have to enter testing protocol, which could quarantine the high flying forward for four days, however, that is if he continues to get tested while he is away. If he does not get tested, he will be required to spend a minimum of a week in quarantine.

The Pelicans are looking to push for a playoff birth when the league restarts. To do so they would have to either hop over the Portland Trailblazers and Memphis grizzlies or be within four games of the eighth seed to start a mini playoff.
