A young Black activist who is known to use her voice to denounce violence was brutalized by police while protesting.
Miracle Boyd, 18, is a member of the group GoodKids MadCity, and spoke to a crowd about the removal of Christopher Columbus’ statue in Chicago’s Grant Park.
A video surfaced on the organization’s account of an officer attacking Boyd. “.@chicagosmayor We now have the video of Miracle being sucker punched by CPD!” the activist group said in the post, tagging the official Twitter page of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. “They don’t keep us safe! While they’re attacking a 2020 CPS graduates downtown, children were being shot tonight!”
This incident was used as further support to defund the police department, which has been a rallying outcry amid the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.
The activist group revealed that Boyd is also suffering from face injuries. “OUR MEMBER MIRACLE WAS BEATEN UP BY THE POLICE TONIGHT AND THEY STOLE HER PHONE” later asking ‘THI IS HOW YOU TREAT BLACK GIRLS!?”
