Joe Biden said on Wednesday after being sworn in as President of The United States that Donald Trump left him a “very generous letter” before leaving the grounds.
Biden said, while signing executive orders reversing policies that Trump implemented, said that the letter is private and he will not “immediately” share any details of it out of respect for Trump.
“The President wrote a very generous letter,” Biden told reporters. “Because it was private, I will not talk about it until I talk to him, but it was generous.”
A Presidential aide for Biden described the note to CNN as a “personal note” that wishes Biden the best of luck in the next four years and prays for the success of the country and new administration. Believe it or not, it is actually a tradition that the former President left the incoming President a letter.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki declined to give more information on the letter, saying that based on the comments from Biden, “this is a letter that was private, as he said to you all, it was both generous and gracious, and it was just a reflection of him not planning to release the letter unilaterally.”
Upon hearing that Trump left a letter for Joe Biden, many took to social media to guess what the letter said.
