After a successful run in the game following the stellar release of the memorable Country Grammar LP about two decades ago, Nelly and his hometown crew the St. Lunatics seemed to have slowly gone their own ways respectively. It is now being revealed by St. Lunatics member Ali that Nelly allegedly deliberately left his hometown homies behind with intentions of pursuing a solo career.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Ali, also known as Power God, accuses Nelly of abandoning the St. Lunatics to advance his own solo career. Ali posted a video of Nelly telling his followers he was the “original hustler”. This didn’t sit well with the Black Gold rap veteran and self-proclaimed founder of the group, who gave his followers a history lesson on Nelly and the St. Lunatics.
Ali says that he started the group in 1993 and taught all of the members how to write rhymes and contends that he helped Nelly write several songs. Ali also says that in 1997, the label wanted to remove Nelly’s verse from his single “Gimme What You Got” and turned down the label’s deal for the single because the contract didn’t include the other group members.
“Fast forward 1999: Ma$e Manager at the time(Cudda)…was introduced to us…and he immediately started separating the group,” Ali alleges. “He wanted Nelly and City spud. They left with Cudda (went to Harlem)…..The separation became The reality…They had left!!! We (The rest of the group) felt ‘HUSTLED’….we were *1 until, The opportunity was presented to be *2..they hustled us!!”
Nelly has yet to respond to any of Ali’s allegations.
