“We are starting a new day with Pearl Milling Company,” a PepsiCo spokesperson said. “A new day rooted in the brand’s historic beginnings and its mission to create moments that matter at the breakfast table.”

The new brand is set to release in June. The new name comes from the milling company in St. Joseph, MO, that revolutionized breakfast by creating the self-rising pancake mix that we use today.

Quaker Oats first announced that they would change the names of Aunt Jemima, and other brands with historically racist logos, after the killing of George Floyd sparked worldwide protests and put pressure on food companies to address their racist branding.

“Last June, PepsiCo and The Quaker Oats Company made a commitment to change the name and image of Aunt Jemima, recognizing that they do not reflect our core values,” the company said on the website.

Along with the name change, Quaker Oats had pledged $5 million to support the Black community.
