NBA legend Baron Davis has backed 30 Under 30 tech entrepreneur Chloë Cheyenne and her founding of COMMUNITYx, a social justice app set to match people with worthy causes and facilitate real change through actionable content.
COMMUNITYx is where changemakers meet and organize on causes from climate change to racial justice: think virtual protests, one-click petitions, and event coordination – WITHOUT getting lost in the algorithm, shadowbanned, or censoring marginalized voices.
Set for launch on March 31, the app is 32 years to the day since Chloë’s father, who is African American, was permanently handicapped in a police brutality incident; the family trauma that helped inspire this new app for change.
“When building COMMUNITYx, my number one priority was to make it the antithesis of the empty ‘clicktivism that we often see on other social apps,” Chloë said. “There is a digital colonialism happening on major platforms where activism, at best, gets lost in the algorithm, and at worst – is silenced, along with the general censorship of marginalized voices.”
She added, “COMMUNITYx is a safe space for socially conscious people to focus on what’s important without the distractions – and make real change happen with actionable content.”
In the beta phase, Cheyenne and co-founder/CTO Kourtni Marshall, COMMUNITYx gained accolades based on the mission statement, while also capturing the attention of Baron Davis, NBA star-turned tech mogul.
“When I learned about COMMUNITYx I immediately thought the concept of a social network for social good was brilliant,” Davis said.
“Then hearing the incredibly poignant founding story and learning of the accomplishments and track records of these two BIPOC co-founders, from Howard to Google to Forbes – it was a no-brainer. There is no better time for this product, and I can’t wait to put all of my friends on when it launches,” he added.
COMMUNITYx is available to download to March 31st, 2021. Until then, interested users can register for the waitlist to be one of the first adopters and can even vote for their favorite causes to take center stage on the app on launch day.
