Issa Rae has proved time and time again that doing anything in formal tradition is just not her cup of tea. The multi-hyphenate actress, producer, and writer has managed to achieve what few mega-stars have attempted to do: keep her personal life a tightly guarded secret. Tying the knot with long time boyfriend Louis Diame in the south of France over the weekend and announcing to her 3.2 million followers that she was married of course, true to form, she captioned the post with her signature humor: “A) Impromptu photo shoot in a custom @verawang dress. B) My girls came to help me, but they all coincidentally had on the same dress! They were sooooo embarrassed. C) Then I took a few flicks with Somebody’s Husband.” It’s not everyday a bride orders grillz for her wedding day. But in Issa Rae fashion, none of us should be surprised to know that on the list to go along with something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new, she added custom grillz.
She custom ordered a diamond and gold grill for her wedding day from Grillz by Scotty in LA. Who also has a location in Atlanta and has created grillz for everyone from, T.I., K. Michelle, Melanie Fiona and David Banner to name a few. Scotty called in to Majic 107.5’s Ryan Cameron Uncensored radio show on Tuesday to explain Issa’s custom order. Stating, Rae walked into his West Coast location to order her grillz. Requesting platinum fangs with inset diamonds — and only the best quality diamonds would suffice. Scotty said he had no idea who she was until after she placed her order and left. To be sure nothing went wrong with this special order Scotty, made a backup piece just in case he ran into any problems or if the first one didn’t fit, he also hand delivered them personally to Rae in France.
