Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak formed the duo we never knew we needed and now they’re back with another one.
Silk Sonic took to social media to cordially invite fans to their “summertime jam.” Although this was a vague and cryptic announcement, it was safe to assume that they were going to drop the follow-up to “Leave The Door Open,” which dropped five months ago and received multiple nods and awards.
“Skate” comes almost a month after Bruno and Anderson took the stage at the 2021 BET Awards. The rapper trolled fans by teasing new music. Do y’all wanna hear a new song? Do y’all wanna hear a new song off the album?” he asked the cheering crowd, before squashing their hopes. “Nah, we gon’ run it back. Let’s go!”
“Skate” will be featured on Silk Sonic’s highly-anticipated album, An Evening With Silk Sonic.
There’s no tentative release date for the project but its been seemingly completed since February.
The pair explained to Zane Lowe that their fan-favorite duo began as a jam session and “snowballed” from there.
“It was like, ‘Well, want to come back tomorrow?’ And we kept coming up with music,” Mars said. “It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. And jamming with your buddy … There’s no plan, just working out the parts and trying to excite each other … I’d never created music like that, with drums being the focus. Andy is this monster behind the drums and you’re going to hear that all over the album.”
