R. Kelly is currently on trial in New York. During court proceedings, an attorney revealed that R. Kelly is almost entirely broke even though his music brings in money.
Kelly’s catalog, his most valuable asset, is explored in a new Billboard report, revealing how the allegations levied against him could change his worth.
In the meantime, Kellz is shopping his set of hits. With singles like “Bump N’ Grind” and “Ignition (Remix)” for sale, industry executives highlight the real price and worth of the catalog now.
“It [Kelly’s catalog] has been offered to me a number of times by his team, and of course, I’ve said no for the obvious reasons,” says Merck Mercuriadis, Hipgnosis Songs Fund founder and CEO of The Family (Music) Ltd.
Mercuriadis revealed that the last discussion occurred six months ago, and he believes fans will have a harder time separating the man from the music if he is found guilty.
Another music asset buyer who passed on purchase two years ago delivered the following statement: “We wouldn’t go near it with a 10-foot pole.”
