The Dallas Mavericks have a final roster spot to fill, and it’s reportedly down to three veterans working out to determine who gets it.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Thursday that the Dallas Mavericks recently worked out Isaiah Thomas in addition to ex-NBA stars Lance Stephenson and Monta Ellis. Charania adds that Thomas, in particular, appeared to be in great shape.
The former All-Star Thomas appears to be right on the fringe of cracking an NBA roster. He recently came close to signing with the Los Angeles Lakers before the team decided to go with Rajon Rondo instead.
While Thomas appeared in a handful of games for New Orleans in 2020/21, it has been quite some time since either Stephenson or Ellis suited up for an NBA team. The Mavericks need someone who can create their own shot to help Luke Doncic out. Out of the three options here, Thomas fits the bill the best.
