2022 has become the year of the 2000s resurgence with new hits sampling 2000-2010 classics. Emerging New Jersey recording artist Flex A.i. continues the trend by sampling the 2001 Eve classic “Who’s That Girl” for his bouncy new single “Who Dat,” supported by the music video.
Flex A.i., who’s surrounded by a mob of beautiful women, throws an insane house party in the Crafty Views Media-directed visual. Everyone shows off their impressive dance moves while he delivers high-energy raps about his plans to take over the dance floor than the charts. The song and visual blend several infectious genres of hip hop in Drill and Go-Go — resulting in a radio-ready hit.
Since its release last May, “Who Dat” has gone viral with over 400,000 views on Tik Tok and support from several high-profile influencers. The song’s popularity is spearheading the Jersey Drill sound, an exciting new sub-genre of Drill rap where rhymers spit lit lyrics over the hottest Jersey Club mixes. Flex’s trendy style places him firmly at the front of the new sound as its face.
Began writing raps at 15, Flex A.i. honed his crafty and developed a signature sound of his own by studying East Coast legends like Fabolous, 50 Cent and Jay-Z. One thing that distinguishes him from others is hunger and humility. He strives to achieve more while always showing love and support to his home state — putting Jersey back at the forefront. New Jersey is best known for producing hip-hop stars Red Man, Joe Budden, and Fetty Wap.
The Eve original song stems from the Philadelphia native’s second album, Scorpion, released on Ruff Ryder/Interscope. Released in March 2001, the platinum-selling album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hip Hop-R&B album charts, selling 162,000 copies in the first week and she achieved her second consecutive number-one album. Along with “Who’s That Girl,” the album spawned the hit songs “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” featuring Gwen Stefani.
