The Source got a chance to chat with Jaime King, SVP of design at Maurices to discuss the inspiration behind the newest styles and trends for the Fall 2023 season.
Jaime the new fall designs are so chic yet affordable. The quality and design of the garments are bar none. How did you choose the items for this season?
Before we launch any new designs, we listen to customer feedback and analyze past selling and use that info to design based on their needs while still remaining on trend for the season.
For example, we heard our customers say they wanted jeans that were more structured and had less stretch (we often received feedback that customers want ‘real’ denim). So we got to work designing the Goldie Blues collection, and launched it this fall. The product went through several rounds of testing where we reviewed quality and durability. As a result, customers who requested this style of jeans are thrilled with the new line!
What items are trending this fall season?
The long denim skirt is back and better than ever! In addition to skirts, denim on denim is a huge hit. We’re seeing everyone from the runway to our local stores pairing either a denim skirt or jeans with a denim jacket or denim shirt. Seasonal shirts featuring pumpkins, apples, leaves, and all things fall are huge with our customers. And of course, this year’s coziest closet addition: the shacket. A cross between a jacket and a shirt, we’ve got shackets in a rainbow of colors and textures. They’re the perfect layering item to keep you cozy all fall long.
What is the inspiration behind the denim collection?
We designed Goldie Blues to appeal to the customers who said they wanted less stretch and more structure in their denim (like a true Vintage jean!). We paid extra attention to the detail and fit of these jeans, adding perfectly placed back pockets for a cheeky and lifted rear view. The angle of the rise was engineered we to ensure the most flattering fit. And the nipped in waist gives that classic ’90s high, tight look.
What does it mean to you to work with Maurices to choose such an essential item to a girl’s wardrobe?
I believe in creating clothing that works for a variety of body types. We pride ourselves on having a wide range of sizes from 0-24 and offer jeans in curvy for a little extra space in the hips and thighs. Our jeans also come in petite, regular, and long lengths. We want all of our customers to feel confident in our clothes and design essential items they love and come back for season after season.
