Tampa police confirmed that the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. in the hotel’s parking lot at the intersection of Fowler Avenue and McKinley Drive.

“What we have learned, and this is early in the investigation, two cars were shot at,” stated Joneé Lewis, public information officer for the Tampa Police Department.

Official word came in that one person, believed to be a 26-year-old man named Charles Jones, was killed at the scene, though the medical examiner has not yet confirmed the identification. Jones is the legal name of rapper Julio Foolio. Three other gunshot victims were taken to local hospitals and are expected to survive.

Investigators suspect the victims were trying to get a room at the hotel when the shooting occurred. Police are reviewing surveillance footage to gather more details and are guiding hotel guests around the scene. “I only heard one (gunshot),” hotel guest Jeremiah Claypool said. “It woke me up, but apparently there were more than that.”

No arrests have been made, and officers seek additional video evidence to identify potential suspects.

Although police have not officially confirmed Julio Foolio’s death, his girlfriend, Blanco Mani, posted on Instagram about his passing after celebrating his birthday in Tampa. She shared a photo of him from that night.

Sadly, the rapper’s Instagram story showed he was celebrating his birthday with a pool party at a Tampa Airbnb before being made to relocate by police.

Rest in Peace. Stop the violence. Now.
