Already? Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, was sidelined from the Lakers’ second game of the California Classic on Sunday due to swelling in his left knee. This disappointing development occurred a day after he scored four points in the NBA Summer League debut.
For context, during the first half against the Golden State Warriors, Bronny sat in uniform at the end of the bench with a white wrap on his left leg, occasionally adjusting it.
“Just being precautionary about it,” said Johnson. “The hope is (and) the plan is for him to play the next game here. But that’s all the information we have so far.”
ICYMI, in his NBA Summer League debut on Saturday night, Bronny scored four points in a 108-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings. He went 2-for-9 from the field, missed all three of his 3-point attempts, and grabbed two rebounds in 22 minutes. During the fourth quarter of the game against the Warriors, fans at the Chase Center started chanting, “We want Bronny! We want Bronny!”
With a 0-2 record in the California Classic, the Lakers are set to play Miami on Wednesday, their last chance for a win before the Las Vegas Summer League begins on Friday. Johnson noted that the medical team responsible for player health would determine Bronny’s availability for the game against the Heat.
