Former President Trump Taps JD Vance as Running Mate for Vice President; Who is the Ohio Republican Senator?

We finally know who Trump is running within the upcoming election. On Monday (July 15) at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, former President Donald Trump just announced that J.D. Vance would be his vice-presidential candidate.

So, who is the controversial Republican Senator from Ohio? Let’s dive in …

Vance hails from Jackson, Kentucky, and Middletown, Ohio. He clawed his way to prominence after his 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” Oh boy. The colorful book details his upbringing marked by poverty, abuse, and a mother who battled drug addiction. Then, Vance spent many of his formative years under the care of his grandmother, whom he called Mamaw. Sounds relatable, right? Maybe he’s an everyday American? Not so fast.

Here comes his politics and views …

In 2022, Vance won his seat in the U.S. Senate by defeating former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan.

Get this: Vance, like many Republicans, was initially a vocal critic of Trump. He called, likening him to “America’s Hitler.”

Full stop. He called Trump HITLER. But now he’s Donald’s VP choice? What is going on here?

But again, like his colleagues on the right, Vance reversed his stance on Trump as he prepared for his Senate run. He needed to kiss the ring to get ahead and that he did to secure Trump’s endorsement ultimately.

Vance is a HUGE opponent of abortion. Read that again.

He has called for government incentives to encourage childbearing. It sounds very “Hand Maiden’s Tale-ish.’ But after Ohio and other states’ pro-abortion access votes, he seemed to acknowledge that Republicans must “accept that people do not want blanket abortion bans.”

Now, about his views on democracy – something we should all be scared of.

Vance expressed staunch support for Trump’s ridiculous claims about the 2020 election being stolen. Vance even said that if he had been vice president, he would have helped to overturn the election results. PLEASE READ THAT AGAIN.

Vance has even raised funds for January 6 rioters. Wild. He then demanded a criminal investigation into a Washington Post columnist being critical of Trump. So, about the whole First Amendment thing. Maybe we should be scared over here, too.

What’s super wild is he just attributed the assassination attempt on Trump to Democrats’ rhetoric, of course, without any evidence whatsoever.

Check this out. During a podcast interview, he suggested Trump should “fire every single mid-level bureaucrat” in the U.S. government and replace them with loyalists, even proposing that Trump ignore judicial rulings that interfere with this plan. “You stand before the country, like Andrew Jackson did, and say the chief justice has made his ruling; now let him enforce it,” Vance said.

Yes, he said ALL OF THAT.

What does this all mean?

JD Vance is a scary candidate, no matter where you sit on the aisle of politics. Now he’s hand in hand with Donald J. Trump, fresh off his fist pump photo after the “assassination attempt” on his life. Seems like the momentum is building for the 34-time felon running for reelection, now the only question is what is the other side going to do about it? And more importantly, no matter who you support, VOTE, VOTE, and VOTE.
