“The biggest challenges in today’s music industry and the Afro house scene are recognition and visibility,” says artist NOMIS. “There are many talented artists, but breaking through and making a name for yourself is extremely challenging.” Fortunately for NOMIS, a successful Afro-house DJ & Producer who is currently busting into the music scene with a chart-topping hit, he has overcome those challenges through diligence, hard work, and articulate musical talent.

Since childhood, NOMIS says his passion for music has been unwavering. Growing up, his parents owned clubs and NOMIS got to see first-hand the kind of impact the DJ sets could have on an audience. As he says, it “connected me deeply to music from a young age. It became clear to me early on that I wanted to be the one behind the decks, creating music that would make people dance and be happy.”

During his earliest years of wading into making his own music, NOMIS was deeply inspired by the French touch movement and artists like Daft Punk, Butch, and Cassius. Later, his musical journey led him to find a niche for himself, creating his own NOMIS Afro-house music, where artists such as Black Coffee and Erick Morillo became his biggest inspirations.

Through the “fusion of house sounds with dynamic Afro elements such as ethnic vocals and drums,” NOMIS found himself musically fulfilled. “As I began to understand my identity as an artist,” he says, “the music I wanted to create and perform, and stopped worrying about others’  opinions, I gained confidence in myself and my musical direction.”

At 17, he made the move to Paris, France. There, he began DJing in renowned bars,  restaurants, and clubs. He worked tirelessly to gradually establish himself as a notable DJ for fashion weeks and major events. During this time, NOMIS performed opening sets for artists like Diplo, Who Made Who, Moojo, and Carlita.

After becoming a reference DJ in the Parisian nightlife scene, NOMIS even launched his own event called ANCORA. Taking place weekly at the prestigious MATIGNON club in Paris, ANCORA also organizes events in Paris and around the world, featuring Afro-house and electro artists like Francis Mercier, Adam Ten, Sebastien Leger, Alex Wann, Mont Rouge, and Rivo.

Now, nearly a decade after first moving to Paris, NOMIS’s career has reached new heights with worldwide tours spanning Asia, Latin America, Canada, and European residencies in Ibiza, Mykonos, and Saint Tropez.

On the production side, after years of hard work, NOMIS released the hit record ‘Kabe’ in April 2024. The track featured Francis Mercier and the legendary African voice of Salif Keita. In less than two months, it amassed over a million streams across all platforms, as well as achieving multiple top 10 positions in the AfroHouse category on Beatport and garnering over 200,000 monthly listeners on his NOMIS (FR) music Spotify.
