Today in Hip-Hop History: Brand Nubian Dropped Their Second LP ‘In God We Trust’ 32 Years Ago

Brand Nubian In God We Trust

On this day in 1993, Brand Nubian released their sophomore album, In God We Trust, on Elektra Records—following up their five-mic classic, All for One.

With Grand Puba having embarked on a solo career and riding high off the success of Reel to Reel, Sadat X and Lord Jamar carried the torch, staying true to their roots and delivering a powerful, knowledge-infused project. In God We Trust upheld the group’s original mission—dropping science rooted in the teachings of the Five-Percent Nation.

From their rendition of the Nation’s anthem, The Enlightener, to hard-hitting tracks like Black and Blue, which tackled police brutality, and the high-energy classic Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down, Brand Nubian made sure to bring their lyrical A-game. With sharp rhymes, unapologetic messages, and head-nodding production, this album remains a pivotal piece of Hip-Hop history.

Salute to Sadat X and Lord Jamar for delivering this timeless classic!
