“I was in a relationship with a Jamaican athlete that never cared about me from jump,” Sha’Carri wrote. “I was abused and stole from yet protected her from the judgment of her country & family while they dragged me. I had to deal with homophobic [sic] and so much more that I’m still healing from.”

Her ex-girlfriend, Jamaican track star Janeek Brown, later admitted to being abusive during their relationship. “I was abusive once that there’s physical evidence of,” Janeek confessed in an interview. “And we moved on, and even after then I was trying to move on from that, we still got nowhere.”
Sha’Carri and Christian were first spotted together at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in 2023. Christian’s excitement was evident when he tackled Sha’Carri in celebration after she won the Women’s 4x100m Relay Final.
