Drake Reveals 21 Savage Was His Only Support During So-Called Beef

Unless you were under a rock or likely bunned up with your number ones (or twos) on Feb 14, Drake’s new album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, dropped.

On the track “GIMME A HUG,” Drake takes a moment to express gratitude to 21 Savage for his unwavering support during the intense rap beef, rapping, “Savage, you the only [one] checkin’ on me when we really in some sht, brother.”* This acknowledgment comes after a series of public disputes and feuds in 2024, which caused some tension within the rap community.

The song “GIMME A HUG” also stirred controversy with a jab at Joe Budden. Following his line about 21 Savage, Drake raps, “Melyssa Ford, you a legend from the 6, hate to see you with a d**k-sucker,” a reference to Ford’s role as a cohost on The Joe Budden Podcast. While the lyric seems to praise Ford, it also puts her in the crossfire due to her connection to Budden.

Additionally, Drake seemingly addressed Kendrick Lamar on the track with lines hinting at his frustrations, “Bulletproof doors so heavy, got me rolling ’round like a dignitary/ Funny how it’s only [people] waiting on The Boy’s obituary/ ‘Cause if I die, it’s these [people] that become the sole beneficiary.”

However you feel about who stuck by Drake or didn’t, here’s one thing we do know: $$ $4U is a no-skip project with slapper after slapper proving the 6God and PARTYNEXTDOOR are far from done. In fact, it looks like they’re just warming up. For Drake, that’s something he’s been doing for 15 years. That part.
