Drake’s “Drone Standoff” in Sydney Revealed as Stake Ad Stunt Amid Album Drop

Drake recently drew viral attention, after a somewhat dramatic video that showed the 6God reacting to a mysterious drone outside his Sydney penthouse. It was funny so we figured it was a joke but now we know.

In the clip, the chart topping Toronto icon appears startled as the drone hovers nearby, prompting him to grab an orange slide and throw it at the flying object. The drone dodges the slide and pulls back for a sweeping view of the city, but sharp-eyed viewers quickly noticed something peculiar—this seemingly spontaneous interaction felt too rehearsed.

But we were here for it so calm down.

Here’s the original stunt ICYMI.

Fans began to suspect that the scene was staged, and the biggest clue came from the positioning of the drone, which was conveniently situated in front of Drake’s laptop. The laptop displayed a gambling website–smart–raising eyebrows among fans who know about the rapper’s well-publicized relationship with betting platform Stake. This led many to quickly connect the dots between the stunt and his partnership with the platform.

Drake later confirmed our suspicions in an Instagram post, captioning it, “The stakes are high. But so am I.” Genius, all the way to the bank.

Drizzy shared a still image of himself mid-throw, wearing Stake-branded merchandise and offering a hint of humor with a clip of Big Daddy Marc singing “Nokia.” The playful nod hinted that the whole moment may have been a clever inside joke rather than a real-life incident.

Stake also played along, as it was probably all coordinated, fueling the growing speculation by commenting a “detective” emoji under one of the viral posts. This only cemented their involvement in the staged stunt, leaving fans amused and entertained by Drake’s dramatic performance. Whether viewers were in on the joke or simply entertained by the unexpected spectacle, the video quickly became a meme sensation.

Meanwhile, Drake is continuing to keep the spotlight on him with his recent album release, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, a collaborative project with PARTYNEXTDOOR. Dropped on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), the 21-track album runs for 74 minutes and features guest appearances from Yebba, Chino Pacas, and Pim, adding to the buzz surrounding both his music and his playful antics with Stake. $$$4U slapped and so does his partnership with Stake, apparently.
