This past weekend, Curry Brand celebrated its 20th court refurbishment at McClymonds High School in Oakland, CA, fulfilling its commitment to renovate 20 safe places to play by 2025. With this final court completion, Curry Brand has officially met all of its community impact goals set in December 2020, including renovating 20 courts, training 15,000 coaches, and supporting 125 programs to impact 300,000 kids globally.

“When I joined Under Armour back in 2013, I never would have imagined the impact that we would have together,” said Stephen Curry. “Launching Curry Brand in 2020, we aimed to make a difference by ensuring young athletes have what they need to dream big. Today, we celebrate this incredible milestone with the 20th Curry Court refurbishment at McClymonds High School, a place with a historic legacy in Oakland. We are honored to keep the legacy of Bill Russell alive and continue making a positive impact in the Oakland community and beyond.”

Curry Brand has focused on investing in people, places, and programs that have a special connection to Stephen Curry. Over the past four years, the brand has worked closely with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) and Oakland Athletic League (OAL) to support middle school basketball programs and train coaches through the Positive Coaching Alliance. Since 2021, Curry Brand has refurbished 11 courts in Oakland, completing six renovations in the last six months alongside Eat. Learn. Play., OUSD, and OAL.
McClymonds High School received a brand-new NBA-grade hardwood floor, new hoops, backboards, scoreboards, and shot clocks. Known as the “School of Champions” due to its illustrious basketball legacy, McClymonds provided the perfect setting to celebrate Curry Brand’s accomplishments during NBA All-Star Weekend.
On February 14, Curry Brand gathered 20 top high school basketball players from across OUSD for an all-star exhibition on McClymonds’ newly refurbished court. Before the game, Stephen Curry, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, Jeannine Russell, Dr. Kyla Johnson-Trammell (OUSD Superintendent), and McClymonds Principal Darielle Davis announced that the gym would be officially named the “William Felton ‘Bill’ Russell Gymnasium” in honor of the NBA legend, civil rights activist, and McClymonds alum. A scholarship was also established in Bill Russell’s name, and the McClymonds library will feature books authored by him.

“Bill would be so proud to partner with Curry Brand and Under Armour to help strengthen the Oakland community through this beautiful court,” said Jeannine Russell. “He always understood the value of sports and education in building a strong foundation for a community.”
Following the dedication ceremony, Stephen Curry was joined on court by YouTuber MrBeast for a surprise competition to raise additional funds for Oakland students. Under Armour athletes Kelsey Plum and Brandon Jennings coached the two competing all-star teams—”The City” and “The Town.” Ultimately, “The City” won 45-31, with Deyonte Spears named MVP for the boys (15 points) and Jhai Johnson receiving MVP honors for the girls (11 points).
