Lawyer Tony Buzbee Denies Rumors That He Is Disbarred In NY Following Jay-Z, Diddy Lawsuit

Tony Buzbee is shutting down rumors that he has been disbarred in the Southern District of New York. The high-profile attorney, whose involvement in celebrity lawsuits has made him a notable figure in hip-hop circles, took to Instagram (via The Neighborhood Talk) to address the speculation head-on.

Dismissing the claims as “pure bunk,” Buzbee clarified his legal standing in a lengthy statement.

“I receive many press inquiries and make no effort to respond to most,” he wrote. “I prefer rather to make a one-time general statement and let the various entities use that statement as they see fit.”

He then called out publications spreading the misinformation, revealing that colleagues and friends had reached out with concerns about his alleged disbarment.

“Over the past week, I’ve gotten multiple inquiries from friends and colleagues expressing concern and asking why I have been ‘barred’ from practicing law in New York State and offering their assistance,” he said. “I myself have seen several press agencies, some borderline legitimate, reporting that same trash.”

Buzbee made it clear that he is, in fact, still licensed to practice law in New York.

“Let me be clear—I’m licensed to practice law in New York. I’m in good standing with the state bar and have always been. Although I prefer Texas, I’m proud of the legal work we are doing in New York. Don’t believe the clickbait or dramatic headlines. Most of what’s reported nowadays is pure bunk by those with an agenda.”

To support his claim, Buzbee included a letter of certification from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York, which confirmed his legal status as of 2019. The document also listed his admission agreement’s end date as January 29, 2025—the same day he reportedly filed for an extension to continue practicing in New York. However, conflicting reports suggest that his request was denied.

Buzbee’s legal troubles in New York stem in part from his involvement in the sexual assault lawsuit against Jay-Z and Diddy, which was ultimately dismissed. Following the case’s collapse, Jay-Z issued a strong statement condemning the lawsuit.

“This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere,” Hov said. “The trauma that my wife, children, loved ones, and I have endured can never be dismissed.”

While Buzbee has publicly denied the disbarment rumors, the controversy surrounding his recent legal battles may continue to fuel speculation about his standing in New York’s legal system.
