For anyone still under the illusion that prison life is a breeze, Tory Lanez’s latest ordeal should put that myth to rest. According to AllHipHop, the Toronto rapper and singer was trying to lay down vocals for a potential prison project when chaos erupted around him.
During a recent phone call, Lanez revealed that he was feeling inspired by fellow Canadian superstars Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and The Weeknd, all of whom have dropped major projects in 2025.
“PARTYNEXTDOOR showed his best work of 2025, Drake showed his best work of 2025,” Lanez said. “The Weeknd showed his best work of 2025, now it’s time for me to come out.”
However, his friend on the other end of the line had serious doubts, especially considering that Lanez had lost all of his recording equipment in a recent prison raid. But despite the setback, Tory remained adamant that he would find a way to make it happen.
Unfortunately, things took a wild turn. Video footage that surfaced on February 24 shows Lanez caught in the middle of what appears to be a full-blown prison riot. While trying to record a verse, he suddenly heard commotion behind him, but attempted to power through. That plan quickly fell apart when the situation escalated.
In the grainy clip, shouting, loud bangs, and general chaos can be heard as the camera zooms in on the madness. Then came the pepper spray. Reports now indicate that Lanez was hit with it, as he appears to stumble in and out of the frame, coughing in the process.
Despite the disruption, Lanez is still pushing forward with his music, having already released nine tracks from behind bars, including “Cell 245,” “Wish I Never Met You,” “Shots Come for Free,” and “Know What You Need.” His team has also been dropping previously unreleased material from 2015-2022, packaged as “The Lost Tapes.”
While it remains to be seen whether this latest incident will impact his ability to record, Tory Lanez doesn’t seem to be letting anything, riots included, stop him from proving his doubters wrong.
