
Democratic Rep. Al Green was escorted out of the House chamber minutes into former President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress after disrupting the speech. Green, a vocal Trump critic, shouted that Trump had “no mandate to cut Medicaid” before being removed by the House Sergeant at Arms.
According to CNN, Speaker Mike Johnson, seated behind Trump, attempted to restore order, repeatedly instructing Green to take his seat before calling for his removal. The incident occurred despite Democratic leadership urging members to refrain from high-profile protests.
Green was not the only Democrat showing discontent. Some members remained seated as First Lady Melania Trump was introduced, while others stood and turned their backs as Trump entered. The night was marked by both silent and vocal expressions of frustration from the opposition.
