Faizon Love Pleads Not Guilty to Felony Assault Charges After Alleged Hotel Attack

Comedian and actor Faizon Love has pleaded not guilty to felony assault with a deadly weapon charges after allegedly attacking a San Diego hotel clerk with a credit card reader.

Love, best known for his roles in films such as Friday, Elf, The Replacements, and Couples Retreat, appeared before a San Diego County judge on Tuesday, roughly seven months after the alleged incident took place.

Incident Details & Allegations

According to San Diego police, Love became agitated after being told the hotel had no vacancy, despite having booked a room through a third-party app. Investigators claim that in frustration, he ripped a credit card reader from its mount and threw it at the receptionist, striking the left side of her head and breaking her glasses.

The clerk reportedly suffered a concussion and has since filed a personal injury lawsuit against Love, seeking monetary damages for her medical bills and emotional distress caused by the attack.

Legal Developments

A warrant for Love’s arrest was issued in October 2024, and he has now been formally charged with felony assault. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office stated that if convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Following his not guilty plea, Love was released after the hearing and is scheduled to return to court in April 2025.

Faizon Love’s Response

Despite the serious charges against him, Love has remained largely silent regarding the incident. When NBC 7 reached out for comment via Instagram, his only response was:

“San Diego The Finest City in America, it’s Good to come home and feel you still belong … Viva! Las Cuatro Milpas!!!”

It remains unclear if Love will issue a more direct statement regarding the allegations as his legal proceedings progress.

With a court date set for April, Love will continue to fight the felony assault charge in what could be a high-profile case given his Hollywood background. Meanwhile, the victim’s lawsuit adds another layer of legal trouble as she seeks compensation for her physical and emotional suffering.

For now, Faizon Love’s fate remains uncertain, but with a possible seven-year prison sentence looming, the outcome of this case could have serious consequences for the veteran comedian’s career and personal life.
