Lil Yachty Calls Black Lives Matter Foundation a Scam: ‘They Had Bought Mansions’

Guess Black Lives Matter, the organization, doesn’t matter to Lil Yachty. The multi-hyphenate, influential Hip-Hop artist didn’t hold back when discussing his views on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization in a recent interview on Quenlin Blackwell’s Feeding Starving Celebrities YouTube series.

Check it; the conversation took a sharp turn when Blackwell brought up BLM about charitable donations.

“BLM? Since you want to be so Black power,” Blackwell joked around the 31:51 mark. Without missing a beat, Yachty responded, “BLM is a scam.”

Oh, there’s more. The rapper didn’t stop there and elaborated on his concerns. “BLM was literally a scam. They had bought mansions,” he said, referencing the controversy surrounding the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation’s financial dealings. In 2022, reports revealed the foundation’s purchase of a $6 million compound in Los Angeles’ Studio City neighborhood, which sparked criticism and raised questions about the organization’s financial transparency.

Get this, in ICYMI, in response to the backlash, Patrisse Cullors, a co-founder of the BLM Global Network Foundation, defended the property purchase. She clarified to the Associated Press that the compound—featuring six bedrooms, a swimming pool, a soundstage, and office space—was meant to serve as a creative hub and a meeting place for Black artists and activists. “We really wanted to make sure that the global network foundation had an asset that wasn’t just financial resources,” Cullors explained. “And we understood that not many Black-led organizations have property. They don’t own their property.”
