Well, that just happened. Grammy-winning rapper Jay Rock, born Johnny Reed McKinzie Jr., was arrested in Los Angeles on Thursday evening, March 13. According to police records obtained by ABC 7, the arrest occurred in the 13000 block of E. 115th Street in Watts, where Jay Rock was taken into custody for possession of a firearm.
Get this, the arrest followed an unexpected turn of events, starting with a routine stop for trespassing in the Nickerson Gardens area. LAPD officials reported that Jay Rock attempted to flee his vehicle when officers did not immediately explain the reason for his detention. As a result, he was booked on suspicion of a felony weapons violation.
The 39-year-old rapper, who has been with Top Dawg Entertainment for nearly 20 years, has not yet publicly addressed the incident. Sheesh, he’s a veteran in this, huh?
Anyways, throughout his career, Jay Rock has made significant strides in the music industry, with TDE helping him secure a deal with Warner Bros. before he parted ways with the label in 2010. He later solidified his position within TDE as a member of Black Hippy, a group that includes fellow rappers Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul.
