Rick Ross has taken issue with the lack of public support for Lil Durk during Rolling Loud California, calling out performers for not acknowledging the incarcerated rapper on stage.
The festival in Los Angeles this past weekend featured performances from Playboi Carti, A$AP Rocky, YG, Sexyy Red, Quavo, and more. However, according to Ross, no one took a moment to shout out Durk, currently facing serious legal trouble.
Ross directly questioned the festival’s lineup in a video posted to his Instagram Stories on Monday (March 17).
“How many n***as screamed ‘free Durk’ at that Rolling Loud? How many?” he asked his followers.
After briefly encouraging young Black men to pursue trades like plumbing or construction, the MMG boss circled back to the topic.
“How many people said ‘free Lil Durk’ at Rolling Loud? Exactly.”
Lil Durk has been behind bars since October 2023, when he was arrested on murder-for-hire charges related to the 2022 killing of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, the cousin of his rap rival Quando Rondo.
The Chicago native was denied bail due to allegations of misconduct while in jail, including repeatedly abusing the phone system despite explicit instructions to avoid three-way calls.
Prosecutors claim Durk financed the murder of Lul Pab as retaliation for the 2020 killing of his close friend and frequent collaborator, King Von, who died during a confrontation with Quando Rondo’s crew. Court documents suggest that flights and rental cars used by the alleged shooters were paid for with a credit card tied to Durk’s Only the Family (OTF) label.
If convicted, Durk faces a potential life sentence, with the death penalty still not entirely ruled out. His trial, initially scheduled for earlier this year, has been pushed to October due to the case’s complexity—including reports that one of the defendants may be negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors.
While Rick Ross’ comments highlight a perceived lack of solidarity within the rap community, Durk’s legal battle continues to unfold, with significant implications for his future.
