Rapper Sexyy Red is facing a $5 million lawsuit from her child’s grandmother, who claims the artist endangered her life by publicly sharing her address and encouraging fans to commit acts of violence against her.
According to a report from St. Louis Today, the suit was filed earlier this week by Nicole Barnes, the 51-year-old paternal grandmother of one of Sexyy Red’s children. Barnes alleges that on December 3, Sexyy Red—whose real name is Janae Wherry—posted a photo of Barnes’ Hazelwood, Missouri, home along with her address to her Facebook followers and urged them to “kick in the door” and carry out violence against her.
Barnes’ attorney, Steven Weaver, said the rapper’s behavior stemmed from a dispute between Wherry and her child’s father—one Barnes had nothing to do with. “Sexyy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client,” Weaver said in an interview. “We did try to informally resolve it, and her attorneys thought it was a joke. And now they’re finding out it’s not.”
Following the online post, Barnes says she and her family were forced to leave their home for safety reasons. A police report was filed, and the lawsuit claims Barnes has since struggled to find another home at a comparable price. She also alleges ongoing emotional distress, requiring therapy, and says she lives in constant fear due to the incident.
The suit accuses Wherry of assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. It seeks $5 million in damages.
Sexyy Red, 26, who has two children, has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, and her representatives have not yet responded to media inquiries.
The case brings renewed attention to the consequences of social media influence and celebrity conduct online—especially when it spills into real-world danger.
