The legal battle over Wendy Williams’ court-ordered guardianship has taken another complicated turn.
Two months after a judge granted the former daytime talk show host permission to undergo a new round of mental health evaluations in her fight to end her guardianship, her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, is now claiming that Williams has refused to participate in the necessary medical testing.
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Morrissey said, “Medical testing, including an MRI brain scan and neuropsychological assessment, had been scheduled for Ms. Williams. The Court directed that the testing be completed in March. Ms. Williams has declined to participate in the testing to date and therefore, the testing was not completed.”
She added, “The parties are not able to address the concerns that have been expressed to the media without the testing. Once Ms. Williams undergoes the testing and a full evaluation, the results will inform the next steps for Ms. Williams’ care.”
The missed appointment, reportedly scheduled for March 21, was meant to be part of a broader assessment to determine whether Williams can manage her own personal and financial affairs. Wendy, 60, has been under guardianship since 2022, with Morrissey overseeing her medical and financial decisions.
Williams expressed confusion over the claim in a brief interview with PEOPLE during a #FreeWendy rally on Tuesday outside her facility. “I don’t know anything about that,” she said. “Bullsh—. I am open to what I am open to and I can’t talk about it right now.”
A source close to the situation tells PEOPLE that Morrissey is prepared to reschedule the testing whenever Williams is ready to participate.
The latest development comes as momentum grows behind the #FreeWendy movement, with supporters staging rallies in New York and Los Angeles earlier this week to protest the guardianship. Fans have argued that Williams deserves the right to speak for herself and regain control over her life.
While the public continues to express concern and support for the former Wendy Williams Show host, the legal proceedings remain tightly sealed. Still, one thing is clear—both sides agree that any future steps will hinge on the results of a new, comprehensive evaluation. Whether or not Wendy chooses to undergo the testing could determine the future of her independence.
