If you’re worried you’ll miss out on the next TikTok challenge, relax and chill because, according to a Bloomberg News report, America’s favorite Gen Z app will continue to be accessible on Apple’s App Store for at least 75 additional days after Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi provided written assurance to the tech company.
The decision follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive order extending the deadline for ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to divest its U.S. operations. Without such a sale, the popular video-sharing app faces a potential ban under national security legislation signed by President Joe Biden in April 2024.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate Bondi’s letter advised Apple it could continue hosting TikTok without penalty during this extended period, aligning with the administration’s revised timeline. Apple has not publicly commented on the matter.
This marks the second time Bondi has intervened regarding TikTok’s App Store status. The platform briefly disappeared from Apple’s marketplace in January following the initial ban deadline before being reinstated on February 13 after receiving similar assurances.
The extension coincides with recent trade developments between the U.S. and China. Days before implementing new 54% tariffs on Chinese goods on April 2, Trump suggested tariff reductions could facilitate a TikTok deal.
“Maybe I’ll give them a little reduction in tariffs or something to get it done,” Trump remarked during a March press conference. “TikTok is big, but every point in tariffs is worth more than TikTok.”
