Tokyo lit up with Hollywood energy earlier this evening as the cast and filmmakers of 20th Century Studios’ upcoming espionage thriller The Amateur hit the red carpet for the film’s Japan premiere at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills. Stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, and director James Hawes greeted an enthusiastic crowd of fans ahead of the exclusive screening, building anticipation for one of this spring’s most intense cinematic offerings.

Set to open nationwide in theaters on April 11, 2025, The Amateur promises a gripping blend of psychological depth and high-stakes action. At the center of the story is Charlie Heller, played by Academy Award-winner Rami Malek, a brilliant yet reclusive CIA codebreaker whose life is shattered after his wife is killed in a terrorist attack in London. When the agency refuses to act, Heller breaks protocol—and the rules—setting off on a globe-trotting mission for justice. Armed only with his intelligence and skills in espionage, he becomes an unlikely operative hellbent on revenge.

Joining Malek in the cast is Rachel Brosnahan, along with a powerhouse ensemble including Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.
Directed by James Hawes and penned by screenwriters Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, the screenplay is based on the novel by Robert Littell. The film is produced by Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, Rami Malek, and Joel B. Michaels, with JJ Hook serving as executive producer.

The red carpet event in Tokyo marked a stylish and exciting lead-up to the film’s global release, with fans turning out in force to show love for the cast and the adrenaline-pumping story they bring to life. As Malek and Brosnahan posed for photos and signed autographs, the buzz around The Amateur made one thing clear: this is one thriller not to be missed.
