A$AP Rocky Sets Hollywood Sights on ‘Bond’ and Pixar Film Franchises

Move over, Michael B. Jordan. Kidding. A$AP Rocky is expanding his horizons in the entertainment industry, expressing a keen interest in high-octane action roles and animated features suitable for children. In a recent interview with Variety, the rapper shared his aspirations following his experience with stunt work on the upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest.

“I’m down for whatever. I think I need to be the new Black James Bond. Like, why not? If we hit the gym, I’ma be aight. Right now I’m in dad mode; you’re gonna have to give me a couple months,” he stated, indicating his readiness to take on more physically demanding roles.

Get this; beyond action films, Rocky also considers projects that his children can enjoy. “I want to do something for my children. Everybody’s doing Despicable Me and SpongeBob and stuff like that. I want to do an original DreamWorks/Pixar-ass film, like Soul,” he explained. “I like the internet stuff too, like Gracie’s Corner. I hate Cocomelon. Cocomelon is bad for the kids, man, but Gracie’s is hittin’. I just hope my kids don’t grow up and think that stuff was lame. So, whatever I do, it’s gonna be cool and timeless.”

While reflecting on his previous foray into acting, Rocky recounted an audition for the role of Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. “I auditioned for Star Wars — for Lando — and my audition was trash. I was trash that day,” he admitted, acknowledging that “My man Childish Gambino was a way better Lando than I would’ve provided at that time.”

Rocky’s next appearance will be in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2025. The film will be released theatrically on August 22, 2025, and will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ starting Sept. 5, 2025.

Get this, in Highest 2 Lowest, Rocky plays Yung Felon, an aspiring rapper seeking recognition from a powerful music mogul portrayed by Denzel Washington. The film, a modern-day reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, also features performances by Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Ice Spice in her feature film debut.
