Former NFL player Kevin Ware Jr. has agreed to a plea deal in court on Wednesday, May 7, admitting guilt to murder and tampering with evidence in the 2021 death of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski. As part of the agreement, Ware will serve 30 years in prison.
Pomaski’s remains were discovered in December 2021, and Ware was indicted by a Harris County, Texas, grand jury in July 2022 in connection with her death. His formal sentencing is scheduled for Friday, May 9.
Before Pomaski’s disappearance in April 2021, Ware had been arrested on separate drug and firearm charges. He later pleaded guilty to those charges and received a 15-year concurrent sentence.
According to reports, the plea deal was reached just days before jury selection was set to begin in the murder trial. Ware could have faced a life sentence had the case gone to trial. Court documents allege that Ware killed Pomaski by using a knife, a blunt object, and strangulation, and then burned her body.
Ware’s 30-year sentence for the murder and tampering charges will run concurrently with his 15-year sentence for the previous drug and weapons convictions.
