For the first time since 1981, the Dallas Mavericks will select No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft — and for the first time, they’ve won the NBA Draft Lottery.
Defying 1.8% odds, Dallas vaulted to the top spot in Monday’s 2025 NBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm, held in Chicago at the site of this week’s Draft Combine. It marks the fourth-lowest odds ever to win the lottery since its inception in 1985.
The win allows Dallas to add a top prospect to its Luka Dončić-led core, with Commissioner Adam Silver set to announce, “With the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select…” on June 25 at Barclays Center.
Two other lottery climbers join Dallas in the top three. San Antonio jumped from 8th to 2nd, continuing its youth movement after back-to-back Rookie of the Year winners Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle. Philadelphia moved up from 5th to 3rd, securing its highest draft spot since 2017 and avoiding the loss of its pick to Oklahoma City.
Charlotte, Utah, and Washington — each with 14% odds — fell to picks 4 through 6. Round 1 of the 2025 NBA Draft begins June 25.
